ExacTray - How It Works |
|
When undergoing radiation therapy, shielding blocks are used to accurately focus and deliver the radiation dosage. This allows for a more effective dose of radiation to be used while minimizing the effects outside the treatment zone. Even with new technologies continuously emerging, there will always be the need for custom blocking. With traditional custom blocking, however, it is difficult to get precise alignment of blocks on the first try. Usually one must rely on taking multiple port films until proper alignment is attained. When a block is misaligned, it has to be laboriously removed from the tray, new holes have to be drilled, and more port films have to be taken to check for proper alignment. In the meantime, patients have to be sent home and appointments rescheduled. |
